Taff-Ely Foodbank has joined calls for the UK Government to scrap the two-child limit as it publishes its stats for the first half of the 2025/26 financial year.

The foodbank has distributed 1,549 food parcels between April 1st and October 1st, 2025, with the number of people accessing support nearly identical to the same period in 2024, and remaining significantly higher than pre-pandemic levels.

Notably, over 85% of the foodbank’s clients listed social security as their sole source of income, and almost 40% of foodbank parcels went to children in the 0-16 age group.

More than 33% of food parcels went to households with three of more children, many of whom are directly affected by the two-child limit.

A spokesperson for the foodbank said, “We hear regularly how impactful the two-child limit is on local families - people telling us they often go without food to ensure their children can eat, or make difficult choices because they don’t have enough money to cover the essentials.”

Taff-Ely Foodbank is part of the Trussell community of foodbanks, one of over 100 organisations who have signed an open letter calling on the government to abolish the two-child limit in the upcoming budget.
