With the 2026 Senedd elections fast approaching, Rhondda Cynon Taf's four foodbanks (Taff-Ely, Pontypridd, Merthyr Cynon, and Rhondda foodbanks) are organising two hustings events with candidates from all major parties.

Taking place on Thursday 16th April in Tonyrefail, and Monday 20th April in Pontypridd, the events will bring together the public with candidates from major parties, where they will answer questions from the community on hunger and hardship and how they will work to end the need for foodbanks in RCT and across Wales.

A Representative of the food banks said:There are 660,000 people facing food insecurity across Wales, Trussell’s Hunger in Wales report found. Food banks increasingly provide support for working families who are having to turn to them to get by. This isn’t right. While food banks and charitable food support are a lifeline, they are not the long-term solution to solving hunger in Wales.

“People in Wales want to see action on hunger. This Senedd election, our communities will be expecting their political candidates to make tackling food bank need a priority on their agenda. Everyone should have enough to afford the essentials like food, bills, and toiletries. We want to see parties from all sides of the political divide make a clear commitment to end the need for food banks in Wales. Because no one should need to turn to a food bank to get by.”

Members of the public can secure a ticket to the event, and submit questions to candidates, for free via Eventbrite:
