Learn more about Volunteers Week 2026
Taff-Ely Foodbank, and indeed foodbanks across the country, wouldn't be able to do the vital work we do without the support of a community of incredible volunteers. That's why we are celebrating Volunteers Week 2026!
Our volunteers form the backbone of our work. Some volunteer in our warehouse, ensuring food is weighed in and bags are packed. Others run our distribution centres, ensuring people facing crisis are greeted not only with emergency food, but a cup of tea, a smile, and a listening ear. Some give their time to fundraise for us, running stalls at community days or helping at our food collections, ensuring we have the support from the community that we need to keep going.
No matter how you give your time, volunteering at Taff-Ely Foodbank makes a massive difference to so many people and ensures we can support people to not only make it through their crisis, but to get out of the crisis altogether. We are incredibly grateful for the 50+ local people who volunteer with us, and we want them to know just how much they mean to us - if you volunteer at Taff-Ely Foodbank, thank you!
This week is also a chance for us to remember those volunteers who are no longer with us, such as Dominic.
A spokesperson for the foodbank said "Dominic gave his time with kindness, humility, and a real sense of purpose. He was someone you could always rely on, and he brought a calm, steady presence that made a difference to everyone around him. He believed deeply in helping others and showed that through his actions every single day.
Outside of the warehouse, Dominic was a proud fan of Star Trek, and in many ways, he lived out its spirit of compassion, curiosity, and community. He reminded us that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. He will be greatly missed, but the legacy of his generosity and warmth will continue to shape our community."
The foodbank will be closed on Wednesday, 3rd June, as foodbank staff and volunteers pay their respects at his funeral.
If you don't volunteer with us but want to get involved, there are plenty of ways to do so! You can learn more at our Volunteer with us page by clicking here.
