Taff-Ely Foodbank experiences busiest April in five years

April 2026 saw Taff-Ely Foodbank provide 355 food parcels to local people in crisis, the food bank's busiest month of 2026 so far, and our busiest April since 2021, when the Coronavirus pandemic pushed a record number of people to food banks. This included 124 food parcels for local children, demonstrating a consistently high level of child poverty in Taff-Ely.

April saw several positive developments nationwide, including increases in the basic rate of Universal Credit and the Minimum Wage. Notably, it also saw the removal of the Two Child benefit limit, which was causing larger families to turn to food banks disproportionately. While these are welcome changes that will no doubt help local people, the impact of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, and increases in the cost of fuel that will likely continue to rise, are continuing to push people to food banks.
