During the month of December, Taff-Ely Foodbank distributed 515 food parcels to local people in crisis, the most ever in a single month. Notably, 219 of these parcels went to local children. This represents a 13% increase over December 2024, when 456 food parcels were distributed.

Despite steps in the right direction from the UK government, and a slight decrease in the number of food parcels being distributed across the nationwide Trussell network, Taff-Ely Foodbank continues to see a concerningly high level of need locally.

The end of the year always brings with it difficulty for many local families, with the high cost of living exacerbated by heating bills during the winter months and the added expenses that come with Christmas. While we are proud to be able to support everyone in our community facing crisis, we remain concerned that so many people have to turn to a foodbank for support. More than 63% of those who received a food parcel in December noted the rising cost of essentials as a factor, and almost 74% of all parcels went to households with children.

As ever, we encourage the government to continue taking steps to ensure our social security system covers the essentials, and encourage the local community to donate to the foodbank if they are able.
